Mack W. Taylor Jr

April 25, 1943 — October 2, 2024

Mack W. Taylor, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack W. Taylor Sr. and Phylis Taylor; his first wife of 39 years, Connie Beth Taylor; his son, Mack W. Taylor III (Trey); and his brother, Michael Taylor.

Mack is survived by his devoted wife of 14 years, Susan McLaughlin; his cherished son, C. Todd Taylor, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Y. Taylor, whom he always considered his daughter. He is also survived by his brother, Merle, and his sister, Jan. Mack’s greatest pride was being “Peepaw” to his six grandchildren: Sean Taylor, Shane Taylor, Tiphani Probstfeld, Hunter Taylor, Christopher Taylor, and Clayton Taylor, and to his five great-grandchildren: Mack Taylor, Linkin Taylor, Lorraine Taylor, Leah Probstfeld and Mason Probstfeld.

Mack was an accomplished businessman, dedicating over thirty years to leadership roles within John Hancock, Lincoln National, American Amicable, and his own Taylor Insurance Company. After a successful career, Mack returned to college and earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso. This opened the door for a second career as a middle school teacher in both El Paso and the Greater Houston area, where he poured his heart into the lives of his students.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mack found joy in serving others. He ministered to prisoners through Bridges to Life and Bill Glass Ministries, served as a hospital chaplain where he received numerous accolades, and faithfully supported his church as an ordained deacon and adult Sunday school teacher.

Above all, Mack’s greatest passion was his committed Christian faith. He developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ later in life, describing his love for “my guy Jesus” with deep affection. This relationship shaped the man he became and brought him peace, purpose, and joy.

Mack W. Taylor Jr will be remembered for his warmth, dedication to family, and unwavering faith. His legacy of love and service will continue in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
